Bisti Wilderness
Bisti Wilderness, alternately called De-Na-Zin Wilderness, located in the north west corner of New Mexico, south of Farmington is awesome.
It is most notable for three things. The Alien Egg Hatchery, which is a collection of sandstone eroded boulders that have colored layers to them that make the look like alien eggs or onion. It has many gravity defying balanced rocks, seemingly as if on pedestals. Finally it has petrified wood. Other parks and places have petrified wood, but with Bisti, the presentation of this petrified wood is very beautiful and artistic.
With Bisti, all these three things are all in one relatively small valley measuring no more than 4 x 1 km going eastward from the parking spaces. Don't just walk in though. You'll need a GPS and or luck to find the Alien Eggs or petrified logs.
