Franconia Ridge, Mt. Washington NUTS trip
Well, that was fun.
Main attractions were hiking Franconia Ridge and Mt. Washington, the highest moutain in the East. Franconia was particularly beautiful after the rain. I initially hiked the ridge in the wet miserable rain, spent some time on the peak of Mt. Lafayette, in the wet miserable rain, then descended from the peak, lost 230 meters (about 25% of prominence) before turning around to go back again to the top again.
It was worth it. The mix of clear ski and fresh exploding clouds was beautiful.
I revisited the peak of Mt. Washington 2 days later but in the comfort of taking the train to the top. That was fun. I camped out for the 6 days in my bivy. Most days had rain. It was there in the most humid campground I have ever visited. So different from the desert that I am used to. If some clothing article got wet, it stayed wet for days. But at least all this humidity nurtured to life some super cool glowing tree fungus. I brought some home and am growing it in my condo.
Watkins Glen was impressive. I have seen the water so low. And the Corning Museum of Glass was stunning in its fresh new expansion wing. I think it now has the most beautiful exhibit rooms of any art gallery I have visited.
